Elections in Afghanistan and condition of women
I wonder if during the electoral campaign in that country someone has submitted to the voters the problem of the condition of women?
I guess there isn't a feminist party in Afghanistan ...

I've just heared on BBC that they have approved a law that says that a husband can refuse to feed a wife who refuses to have sex.
Give to women the possibility to work ... so that they won't be slaves of their husbands ...

Exactely so Luca, its not through speaches or any other measure, women given the possibility of independence will change their world(and the rest of society!)Much better than this war they are having in Afghanistan,it would have been to invest in afghan society the money they are spending in the war-but that would be true in a different world,I guess.

I saw a report on BBC about some women who are candidates to these elections. They candidated themselves without saying anything to their families.

And who knows whats true of whats going on in Afghanistan?!I saw an interview in BBC on a woman there who was in charge of health. She was only using a scarf on a hair that had just come from the hairdresser...and she was using make-up and rather well dressed...I mean, this woman is miles away from the real womem with real problems in her country. And who believes the US and Nato are there for democracy, end of talibans and all that?!?So,I dont understand how you here can take these "elections"seriously or even as a good or bad sign for the Afghans.

I am not sure that the elections had any real meaning or stake for the majority of Afghans. The system is new to them and I am afraid they were just following what they were instructed to do. Although better than the Taliban system of fear and intimidation, is it really their will? Anyways, maybe it is a step in the right direction.

Ehm,
in TV news on BBC I had the possibility to note that electoral papers ... they are even bigger and with more symbols than the Italian ones! That's a record. I wonder how can make a choice ... how many Afghanis have got a TV or a Radio? Have they known the candidates?

I was reading about one man bragging, or maybe just stating, that about 300 people were waiting for him to tell them how to vote. Such an unfortunate situation.
But really the only way the Taliban can rule and control is if they have a country full of illiterates.
Anyways, several schools were built for both male and female and the UN is training women teachers. But is this what the people want?
I read this article and the people are in about the same position as Afghanistan. Maybe Afghans have the same opinion because they really don't know or can't perceive better.
