David Agius is a Member of the Maltese Parliament and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Consideration of Laws.

David is also Vice President of EUCDW (European Union of Christian Democrat Workers).

David Agius is 39 years old and works at Malta Freeport. David was born on the 18th of November 1968. David married his wife Debbie, nee Spiteri, on the 4th of May 1996 and today they have two daughters Davinia and Desiree. They live at Attard.

David studied Economics and Management at the University of Malta.

Since 1991 he presented and produced various programmes on Radio 101 and Net TV. Then he presented a daily breakfast show on Smash Radio together with the presentation and production of the TV programme Minibus on Smash TV.

MALTESE DELEGATION TO ATTEND 54TH COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE IN MALAYSIA


A parliamentary delegation led by the Hon. David Agius, MP and including the Hon. Joe Mizzi, MP and the Hon. Jeffrey Pullicino, MP, will be attending the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between the 1st and 10th August 2008.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Members from all over the world will gather to debate this year’s theme “Expanding the role of Parliament in Global Society: Environment, Development and Security”. The following topics will be discussed during the various meetings and workshops:

• Democracy and Global Peace – An International Order;
• Sustainable Development in the Context of Rapid Urbanization and Rural Decline;
• Credible Elections for a more Representative Parliament, Free and Fair Participation, Greater Diversity and Access to a Free Media;
• Mechanisms to Ensure Adequate Recognition of Women’s Issues in Budgetary Processes;
• Collaboration among Large and Small States through International Organizations to Respond to Climate Change;
• Parliament and Civil Society Engagement for Better Policy-Making;
• The Role of Parliament in Conflict Prevention and Resolution; and
• Reforming the Budget Process: Parliamentary Budget Offices and Effective Parliamentary Oversight.

Amongst those to address the Conference will be the new Commonwealth Secretary General, H.E. Shri Kamlesh Sharma, and CPA Secretary-General Dr William F. Shija. The conference will be opened by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and presided over by the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Malaysia’s lower House.

The three Members of Parliament will also be participating at the 28th Small Branches Conference to be held prior to the 54th Annual Session. During this Conference Members will be debating:

• Protecting the Environment: Water and Waste Management in Sustainable Development;
• Dealing with Conflicts of Interest and Corruption in Small States;
• Meeting the Challenges to the Holding of Democratic Elections; and
• Promoting the Interests of Small States in International Institutions.
