The essence of a Black man Often copied but , never perfected The thing he desires most is to be respected Respected by his peers, his family and his friends He is challenged to prove himself to others time and time again Often envied by other nationalities for his style and grace And when he does not live up to his potential it is said to be a waste Everyday is a struggle to prove his net worth The struggle began from the time of his birth Struggling for a position in society Is often viewed as a reason for his anxiety Inequality is often viewed as the reason for his frustration As he lashes out at those around him It is his desire to keep it all in which seeks to bound him And when he chooses to speak out about the things which have bound him He is often feared for his honesty and cry for respect But, if he is not able to maintain his pride and his dignity What does society expect Without standing up for what he believes He is just merely a shell of a man He is challenged to be better at many things so that he can compete in society and take his place on the stand His position in society is not given freely It has been a battle hard fought along the way It takes restraint to not always respond to ignorance or inequality And not do or say what you really want to say And the battles he chooses to take on will neither be his first nor his last As mentioned in history books in the past The essence if a Black man He must condition and pace himself to make it through the race He sometimes has to take an unpopular stance in life to save face: Happy Birthday My love an my you have many more you friend to the end true
